Missing 5-day-old baby found safe say police near Battle Creek

BATTLE CREEK, MI - A 5-day-old boy who went missing Saturday morning near Battle Creek has been found safe, police said.

State police about 10 a.m. Saturday, May 16 said the child, Jeffrey Michael Smith Jr., had been located. They did not provide other details.

Police in Calhoun County about 6:30 a.m. had issued a missing/endangered advisory for the baby and said he was believed to be with his father. The father had warrants for his arrest out of Emmett Township near Battle Creek, police said.

Police said they were concerned about the infant's well being. The baby did not have any food or additional clothing when taken by the father, police said.
